Sebopiwa Molema Secondary School, Mahikeng

“Feel the music and dance.”

In 2022, Kgosi Moyawa began coaching two learners after class. From that modest beginning, he built a registered school DanceSport team, improvised training spaces, carried learners to provincial and national stages and helped Sebopiwa Molema achieve first place in the 2024 Battle of the Universe.

His story represents exactly why this award exists: progress made possible by a person who serves as teacher, mentor, organiser, motivator and creative problem-solver—often long before the applause begins.

The documented journey

Service that kept opening the next stage

The founding profile is based on the written account supplied by the nominee. Supporting photographs and results will be added after upload and permission review.

2022

Two learners became a team

After joining Sebopiwa Molema Secondary School, Kgosi began coaching two learners informally after class. A small act of service became the beginning of a structured dance pathway.

2023

A school team entered the federation

He registered the school dance team with FEDANSA, prepared three couples for the Interprovincial Championship in Port Elizabeth and improvised an affordable dance floor so local opportunity did not depend on perfect facilities.

2024

Provincial, national and Universe X success

The team earned Ballroom and Latin medals, competed on established DanceSport platforms and won first place in the FNB Battle of the Universe. One couple advanced into the Rising Star division.

2025

Progress into championship level

Learners moved from Level 1 toward Championship level, competing in Bloemfontein, Gauteng and the North West Super Series in Potchefstroom, returning with trophies and medals.

2026

Commitment through pressure

Despite financial constraints and Grade 12 academic demands, the programme continued. Sebopiwa Molema finished as runner-up in the 2025–2026 Battle of the Universe journey and learners kept competing.

2027

An international ambition

The next aspiration is to help a junior championship couple reach international competition—taking a story that began after school into a wider world.

Why he sets the standard

More than trophies

Results matter, but this award recognises the human work behind them: seeing potential early, creating access when resources are scarce, protecting academic priorities and continuing to guide learners through setbacks.

Kgosi's nomination establishes the benchmark for future entries. The strongest story is not simply the most decorated coach; it is the coach whose conduct, consistency and evidence show meaningful change in young lives.

Service beyond duty

Consistent effort beyond the nominee's ordinary role, especially where resources or access are limited.

Youth development

Evidence of growth in confidence, discipline, skills, participation, wellbeing or progression.

Access and inclusion

Creating real opportunity for young people who might otherwise be excluded by cost, location or circumstance.

Measurable progress

Documented milestones such as participation, advancement, qualifications, awards or sustained engagement.

Integrity and safeguarding

Honest evidence, appropriate consent and conduct that protects the dignity and safety of young people.

Nominations opening soon

The public call will begin with evidence

The nomination form is not yet open. Before it launches, Universe X will publish the closing date, cash incentive, voting weight, judging panel and complete award rules.
